City Tour Vienna with own coach, further information…

The Ringstrasse (ring road) was built in the second half of the 19th century instead of the old city walls. Emperor Franz Joseph had the idea to construct a wide and elegant boulevard like the boulevards in Paris. Majestic public buildings and magnificent city palaces were to adorn the street. The Vienna Ringstrasse is one of the most beautiful streets in Europe.

Hofburg was the imperial residence of the Habsburgs. It is a complex of buildings from different periods of time. Today the Federal President of the Republic of Austria works in the Leopoldine wing. The Spanish Riding School is also located there. You can observe the white Lipizzaners in their stables.

Belvedere Palace is one of the most beautiful baroque palaces in Austria. It is the former summer residence of the famous general Prince Eugene of Savoy (1663-1736). Today the Austrian Gallery is located there. It houses one of the most important collections of paintings from the Biedermeier period. You can admire also the works of numerous Austrian artists from around 1900. The most popular painting there is Gustav Klimt’s (1862-1918) Kiss.

The Prater is an amusement park and a recreation area for the Viennese. In the Wurstelprater, young and old can spend hours on the various attractions (carousels, ghost trains, gazebo and others). The oldest attraction is the Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel from 1897, which is also a symbol of Vienna. Some scenes from the film The Third Man were shot there.

Karlskirche (Charl’s church) is one of the most beautiful baroque churches in Austria, completed in 1739 according to plans by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach (1656-1723) and his son Josef Emanuel (1693-1742). The dome fresco is by Johann Michael Rottmayr (1654-1730).

The building of Musikverein is the seat of the Society of Friends of Music in Vienna. It is a traditional concert venue in Vienna. The famous New Year’s Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra takes place in the Great (Golden) Hall. It is broadcasted worldwide on radio and television.
